In recent years, China has accelerated the integration of next-generation information technology with manufacturing, promoting the deployment of industrial internet platforms into enterprises, industrial parks, and industrial clusters. As a result, innovative development of the industrial internet has taken solid steps forward. The industrial internet is a crucial lever for enhancing industrial production efficiency and strengthening enterprises’ overall competitiveness. As early as 2017, the State Council issued the “Guiding Opinions on Deepening the Development of the Industrial Internet through ‘Internet Plus Advanced Manufacturing’”; in 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s “14th Five-Year Plan for the Deep Integration of Informatization and Industrialization” explicitly stated the need to improve the industrial internet platform system. Since the beginning of this year, China has accelerated the development of the industrial internet. The industrial internet identifier resolution system has been largely completed, with the daily resolution volume at the national top-level nodes showing a significant increase. The industrial internet has now been integrated into 45 major categories of the national economy, and its industrial scale has surpassed the trillion-yuan mark. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as of now, the number of “5G+Industrial Internet” projects has exceeded 3,100, with 700 new projects added in the second quarter of this year. The daily resolution volume at national top-level nodes has significantly increased, reaching 150 million times. There are more than 150 specialized platforms with notable industry and regional influence; among these key platforms, the number of connected industrial devices has surpassed 79 million, and the number of industrial apps exceeds 280,000. As one of the most important pathways for digital transformation in industrial enterprises, the Industrial Internet leverages data-driven approaches combined with industry-specific mechanisms and knowledge to optimize the entire process—from monitoring equipment operation and configuring production processes, to managing enterprise orders and coordinating the industrial supply chain. Throughout this process, Sensor It is a key component for acquiring all data and information. Sensors play a wide variety of roles in modern factories. In addition to providing data for process control, they also contribute to quality assessment, asset tracking, and even worker safety. The emergence of cloud-based analytics software and artificial intelligence further enables the use of sensor data to reduce production costs through process optimization and predictive maintenance. After being collected by sensors and transmitted via networked applications, the data can be used for a wide range of purposes—from supply management to global coordination of production resources. Various types of industrial sensors are continually being improved and optimized to meet these diverse application needs. The most common types of industrial smart sensors include: illumination, temperature, motion, position, presence, vision, force, flow, and chemical composition. In fact, there’s a sensor type suited to nearly every process or environmental condition. Therefore, in the era of the Industrial Internet, sensors are the root source of network-connected data and serve as the “nerve endings” of the Industrial Internet, providing the most fundamental data support for building the entire Industrial Internet ecosystem. With the continuous introduction of new industrial sensors that are low-cost, ultra-low-power, and high-performance, the cost of sensor applications will keep declining. On the one hand, this will enhance the sensing capabilities of underlying devices in the Industrial Internet; on the other hand, it will enable large-scale deployment of sensing technologies. These developments will foster deep integration across all stages of the industrial chain—ranging from sensor manufacturing and design to optimization and iterative improvements—and accelerate the growth of the sensor industry ecosystem, thereby better promoting the high-quality development of the Industrial Internet sector. As an important component of the New Infrastructure, the development of the Industrial Internet will have comprehensive, profound, and revolutionary impacts on the sensor industry, presenting China’s sensor industry with unprecedented development opportunities. Sensor companies need to seize the new market opportunities brought about by emerging application areas, focusing on enhancing their competitiveness from the perspectives of application technologies and solutions. Driven by actual application needs, they should integrate across product hardware and software, security tools, networking, storage, and system integration, thereby boosting technological advancement and fostering industrial development.
