Hunan-based enterprise successfully develops high-performance pressure sensor.

2021-01-22

Sensors are extensions of the human five senses—they serve as “scouts” that enable intelligentization. Among these, pressure sensors are the most widely used. On January 20, a scientific and technological achievement appraisal meeting for “High-Performance Nanofilm Metal-Based Pressure Sensors,” organized by the Hunan Provincial Productivity Promotion Center, was held in Liuyang. The appraisal expert committee, chaired by Academician Gui Weihua of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, concluded that the overall technology of this achievement has reached an internationally advanced level; in particular, its performance indicators regarding zero-point drift and operating temperature range have attained an internationally leading position. This signifies that China has made a major breakthrough in the field of high-end pressure sensors, achieving domestic substitution for yet another “bottleneck” technology and product.

Sensor technology, communication technology, and computer technology are known as the three pillars of modern information technology and the foundation of the Internet of Things. Their applications span across all sectors of the national economy and defense industries. In modern control systems, sensors serve as the “window” for information input and represent a crucial pathway for acquiring data and information; they directly influence and determine the system’s functionality and performance.
The head of Sensor Nobleman Technology Co., Ltd. stated that, through three years of dedicated effort and an investment of 6 billion yuan, the company plans to build a high-performance, dual-use intelligent sensor industrial park in China, establishing the Hunan base for high-pressure common-rail sensors. The goal is to achieve an annual production capacity of 5 million high-pressure common-rail pressure sensors and 2 million high-performance nanofilm pressure transmitters, with an annual output value of 10 billion yuan and annual profits and taxes totaling 5.5 billion yuan. This initiative will also stimulate related supporting industries worth an additional 30 billion yuan, making a positive contribution to Hunan’s economic development and the growth of its high-tech sector. Furthermore, it will actively support China’s national defense and economic development, help replace imported high-performance pressure sensors, achieve complete domestic production, and enable China to join the ranks of world leaders in this field.

In 2013, four Chinese government departments—including the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology—jointly issued a notice titled “Action Plan for Accelerating the Development of the Sensor and Intelligent Instrumentation Industry,” which stated: “The sensor and intelligent instrumentation industry is a fundamental and strategic sector of the national economy. It serves as the very source of the deep integration between information technology and industrialization, playing an important role in promoting industrial transformation and upgrading, developing strategic emerging industries, advancing modern national defense construction, and safeguarding and improving people’s living standards. In national defense facilities, major engineering projects, and critical industrial equipment, sensors and the measurement and control systems they comprise are indispensable core technologies and equipment, directly affecting national defense security, economic security, and social security. Developed industrial nations have designated sensor and intelligent instrumentation technologies as key components of their national development strategies.”
After years of development, China’s sensor industry has initially established a relatively complete industrial system and technological innovation framework. However, compared with developed countries, there remains a significant gap, particularly in areas such as R&D capabilities, product quality, and production scale. The vast majority of China’s high-end, precision sensors are assembled using core components sourced from abroad, and there are very few sensor products that possess entirely independent intellectual property rights owned by China.

The “High-Performance Nanofilm Pressure Sensor and Its Applications” project is a novel sensor initiative developed by researchers from Songnomo Technology Co., Ltd., drawing on expertise from various fields and disciplines, with full independent intellectual property rights (having obtained 62 national patents). Under the support of relevant national research programs, Songnomo Technology Co., Ltd. has achieved breakthroughs in key technologies such as the design and manufacturing of new elastomeric materials for pressure sensors, and has mastered core technologies related to specialized sensing materials and the preparation of nanofilms for pressure sensors. The product has been verified by the First Metrology and Testing Research Center of the National Defense Science and Technology Industry, and its overall performance has reached an internationally leading level.
Ren Kaiqiang from the Productivity Promotion Center of the Hunan Provincial Department of Science and Technology believes that the successful development and industrial-scale production of this project in Hunan will enhance the overall strength of China’s sensor industry. It will play a prominent leading and exemplary role in the industry, help establish a strong brand image in the sensor sector, replace imported products, and gradually expand exports to generate foreign exchange earnings. This initiative will also play a positive role in promoting the development of high-tech industries, strengthening local fiscal capacity, saving foreign exchange for the country, and enhancing the nation’s ability to generate foreign exchange through exports.
