2022-12-08

On November 11, the 2022 Hunan Province Advanced Technology Transformation and Application Competition, jointly organized by the Provincial Committee Office for Military-Civilian Integration, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, the Provincial Department of Finance, and the Provincial Federation of Industry and Commerce, officially concluded in Changsha. The project “Industrialization of High-Performance Nanofilm Metal-Based Sensors,” submitted by Sensor Nobleman, stood out from among 160 advanced technological innovation achievements after three rounds of intense competition and was awarded the First Prize of the 2022 Hunan Province Advanced Technology Transformation and Application Competition!

Hunan Province Advanced Technology Transformation and Application Competition: Pressure-Sensitive Core, Pressure Sensor, Sputtered Thin-Film Pressure Sensor

The “Industrialization of High-Performance Nanofilm Metal-Based Sensors” project represents an important strategic initiative and the inaugural undertaking through which Suno-Meng is deeply committed to its corporate mission of “promoting the integration of science and technology with practical applications and contributing to the localization of China’s high-end sensor industry.” This project aims to establish a modern, fully automated production line capable of annually producing 10 million high-performance nanofilm sensor cores, thereby meeting the urgent domestic demand for high-performance sensors—such as pressure, torque, liquid level, and force sensors—that are essential for China’s advanced defense equipment, major national projects, and various industrial and heavy-industry sectors.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, defense equipment is entering a critical phase of upgrading and replacement, and the digital economy will also usher in a new stage of development. The application of sensors will become increasingly widespread, and the demand for electronic components across various sectors will continue to grow. Consequently, the need for import substitution of high-performance sensor chips will steadily intensify. In particular, in recent years, influenced by prolonged and recurring international geopolitical tensions and the military’s ongoing informatization reforms, China has seen the emergence of a new pattern and new situation in the integrated development of military and civilian sectors. Taking informationization and electronic modernization as growth drivers, dual-use technology innovation has entered a new round of rapid expansion. The military-industrial electronic components industry is thriving, and the high-end dual-use equipment industry is gaining increasing popularity.

The “nanofilm sensor technology,” independently developed and innovated by Sensor Nobleman, places great emphasis on achieving independent control and self-reliance. With the goal of “domesticating” the research and manufacturing of high-performance sensors, the company has focused on designing and producing a variety of outstanding sensors. For instance, its high-pressure common-rail pressure sensors now fully meet the requirements of defense-related equipment. "Unlike traditional sensor manufacturing processes, the new materials and processes introduced by nanofilm sensor technology ensure that the sensor’s sensitive core exhibits superior long-term operational stability and enhanced performance," explained Dean Lei. "Moreover, thanks to the atomic-level fusion among the various functional films in the sensitive core, defects such as hysteresis, creep, and aging have been virtually eliminated. This means that once these sensors are put into service, they require minimal maintenance—a feature that makes them particularly well-suited for use in advanced, high-precision defense equipment. This is a truly dual-use, cutting-edge technology with broad application potential as China’s defense informatization continues to deepen."

Focusing solely on the aviation engine market, according to survey reports by relevant institutions, China’s air transportation market will receive 9,284 jet passenger aircraft over the next two decades. The “Changjiang” series products could become a breakthrough for China’s commercial aerospace industry. In the military aviation engine market, annual demand is expected to average 42 billion yuan over the next decade. With rapidly growing demand for civil aircraft and the gradual peak of military aircraft replacement programs, domestically produced engines are poised to achieve import substitution.

On aircraft, dozens of pressure sensors are required alone—for instance, to measure differential pressure, absolute pressure, and gauge pressure of lubricating oil in engines; pressure in fuel filters; pressure in fuel pumps; and inlet air pressure in compressors. In hydraulic systems, these sensors are used to measure the pressure of actuation units, hydraulic actuators for flaps, pressure monitoring of flight control systems, and hydraulic pump pressures. In auxiliary power units (APUs), they measure absolute air pressure, inlet pressure, main oil line pressure, and also include tension and compression sensors for other subsystems; additionally, they measure exhaust pressure of air-conditioning compressors and differential pressure in air ducts. Although domestically produced aircraft currently still face numerous challenges, achieving independent research and development and ensuring self-reliance and controllability have become inevitable trends. As the “Industrialization of High-Performance Nanofilm Metal-Based Sensors” project gradually comes to fruition and is successfully commercialized, this dual-use, high-tech innovation will likely provide aerospace, defense equipment, and high-end machinery with high-performance, domestically produced sensors.

Winning the first prize in the “2022 Hunan Province Advanced Technology Transformation and Application Competition” is a testament to and an inspiring recognition of Suno-Meng’s technological strength by the Hunan Provincial Government as well as the province’s defense science and technology industry and scientific community. As a responsible and committed high-tech enterprise, Suno-Meng deeply feels the urgency of breaking through the technological bottlenecks in sensors. We have always regarded the R&D of world-class sensors and the promotion of “domestication” of China’s sensor industry as our company’s core mission. Receiving this prestigious award represents both an opportunity and a challenge. Suno-Meng will further intensify our investment in technological R&D, accelerate the implementation and commercialization of our “High-Performance Nanofilm Metal-Based Sensor Industrialization” project, and proactively integrate into the national strategy of military-civilian integration. We will speed up the development and achieve new breakthroughs in China’s high-end sensor industry, laying a solid foundation for our country’s sensors to catch up with the world’s advanced level in performance.
